What’s your happiest childhood memory?
Graduating High School in 1976 and receiving the senior class awards for both best scholar as well as best all around athlete. I remember my entire family standing up in the audience and applauding with big proud smiles when the headmaster announced the awards and stated that it was the first time this had been achieved by a student at our high school. I could see how happy that made my family and that memory stays with me forever.

A five-course meal starting with my favourite Andalusian Gespacho Soup, followed by Pata Negra Spanish Ham, Moroccan Couscous, a Bife de Chorizo Steak from Argentina, and then a Flan de Dulce de Leche.
When you first meet someone do you judge them by their handshake?
No – I don’t judge any one when I first meet them, but I do look in their eyes and get a good a feel about the person if they also look me in the eyes and show that they are engaged or interested.
Do you have any blind spots?
Yes – the back of my head.
What’s your favourite journey?
Crossing the Andes from Argentina to Chile on horseback.
If you could share a drink with anyone in the world – living or dead – who would it be?
Marco Polo. He signifies for me the ultimate world traveler and adventurer. Imagine having a drink with him and listening first-hand to his account of his experiences in China, Japan, and other Eastern countries in the 1300s and his relationship with Kublai Khan.
If you could meet yourself as a 16-year old what advice would you give?

Lords of the Atlas: a fascinating story about the Berbers of the Atlas Mountain of Morocco, where my grandfather from my father’s side came from.
What’s on your iPod?
I only have a NANO-IPOD, which my girlfriend gave me a few years ago, loaded with 1000 of my favourite songs and tunes, including rock hits from the 70s to the 90s and sound tracks to my favourite movies, which I’ve connected to my in-car stereo and listen to when I’m driving.

Family is one for all and all for one.
Who is your hero?
Christopher Columbus. No telling where I would have spent the last 25 years of my life, if he hadn’t discovered the Americas.
What’s your idea of heaven?
A happy place where I could be with all my family and friends and other loved ones, including my polo ponies and dogs.
