Barnier warns EU members of infringement proceedings over online gambling
Michel Barnier, the European Union's internal market services commissioner, has warned member states that they face possible infringement proceedings over breaches of EU online gambling rules. He told a meeting on online gambling in parliament that the executive will write to several unnamed member states asking them to comply with the regulations.
"If blatant infringements persist," he said. "I will not hesitate to propose that the appropriate measures be taken."
The French official added: "The development of a more proactive policy must be matched by a firm determination to enforce common rules."
