Malawi National Lottery announces closure

Malawi's National Lottery Group confirmed that it has gone out of business, saying that it had found it difficult to generate profits in current conditions. Public Relations Officer Phillip Banda said the National Lottery's business had declined drastically since December, adding that trading had become impossible in the present climate.

“The company expected to make profits but business was going down contrary to the hype that was created in December when lotto game 636 was introduced in the country,” Banda said.

Allen Cheng, executive officer for National Lottery Group said in December that the company had invested over 1bn kwacha to run the business in Malawi, but these figures have not been verified.
